The Next 2022 WRX STI to get a Turbocharged FA24
The 2.4-liter FA24 is already a common engine in many Subaru models sold in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. This naturally aspirated variant is also in the new Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86.
The new version of Subaru WRX is rumored to produce 296HP compared to the current generation which uses the 2.0 FA20F engine that makes 268HP on a CVT Transmission. A tuned version of the FA24 allegedly produce 345HP or more as rumor claims citing the end of the EJ20-era. The 2.4-liter FA24 is already a common engine in many Subaru models sold in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. According to the rumor, the WRX will come with a CVT transmission and the WRX STI will get a 6-speed manual transmission. They will also share the same platform as the second-gen Subaru Levorg.
The new WRX STI will alledgly debut in early summer 2022 as the rumor states. Subaru’s teaser campaign for the WRX is already in progress so we are expecting to see it in the next few months.
Some rumors cited that this is very likely to be the final iteration of the WRX and STI without some form of electrification. Emissions rules around the world are becoming more stringent quickly, and there’s not much time left for the combustion engine.
The next generation Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 will produce 228hp upped by 28hp from the previous model. The FA24 will be a full second quicker on the zero-100km/h acceleration sprint. Both models are available in Auto and Manual transmission. At the time of writing, it is unknown if UMW Toyota and Subaru Motor Image will be selling in their dealership.
